Do you remember those big, heavy sewing catalogs that would sit on the counters of fabric stores? It was so much fun to look through them to see the latest styles! Many of the pattern companies also made smaller, condensed home versions that looked like magazines. Here are a few from Simplicity and McCall's from the 1960s. They can be found in the Headsheet Albums of the individual models: Carole Ford & Dorothea McGowanWinter 1961/1962 McCall's Home CatalogKathy Carpenter & Angela HowardFall/Winter 1965/1966 McCall's Home CatalogMarola WittFall/Winter 1968 Simplicity Home CatalogLucy AngleSpring/Summer 1969 Simplicity Home Catalog"Did you know that all of these...Simplicity...clothes were made by seamstresses for us as perfect fits? I always wondered what they did with them afterwards." Joan Thompson, Nov. 8, 2008 "Yes, I remember that I was just starting to work a lot for Simplicity and McCall's when I went to Paris. I remember the dresses were made on us, and we got paid for the fittings, too." Linda Morand, Nov. 8. 2008 *~Susan Camp~* | |
